About this Novel

Gidan Kwarata is a Hausa novel written by Maman Teddy. The story is filled with twists and turns that keep the reader engaged from beginning to end. The novel is centered around the lives of its main characters - Oum, Aliyou Haidar, and Hasile. Oum, the protagonist of the story, is a young woman who is fiercely independent and values her privacy. She spends much of her time alone in the kitchen preparing her meals. Aliyou Haidar, on the other hand, is a man who is plagued by his desires. He is unable to sleep at night and is constantly battling his addiction. His addiction is so strong that he is willing to go to any length to find relief. One night, he finds himself unable to sleep again and decides to sneak out to get a bottle of medicine to help him sleep. After drinking the medicine, he finally falls asleep, but not before he has a vivid dream about Hasile, the daughter of a prominent family in the town. He wakes up the next morning with his mind consumed with thoughts of Hasile, and he struggles to keep his desire in check. As the story progresses, the relationship between Oum and Aliyou Haidar becomes more complicated.
