About this Novel
She sat in silence, listening to her uncle's voice rising in anger and sorrow. Exhaustion was evident on his face, devoid of any hint of mercy or lightness. Her mother, too, sat there, absorbing his words, her sadness palpable. Each time her mother endured these fights, it hurt her deeply. Uncle Bellon himself knew when his soul was deteriorating. Each time he brought his basket of misfortune before them, they could feel the weight of it all, yet there was no stopping him. The intensity of his argument and the harshness of his words brought tears to their eyes, but none of them wished to see their brother's tears. Wiping sweat from his forehead with his oversized shirt, he repeated his final words, "If Abdulhameed goes back to school again, they'll bring him to me, and I'll take him to Kaisa's. I won't tolerate any more grief. If you can't stay where God has placed you and you're not your brothers' keepers, then leave or move forward; we won't endure it."
